An early pawn trade leaves the b-file as White's avenue and the d-file as Black's - both sides get real winning chances down their own file. ...Bb4 pins the knight that supports e4: Black fights for the light squares, often trades on c3 to damage the pawns, and plays structure against the bishop pair.
