The first 4 moves, explained

• 1. a4 A useful waiting move that grabs space on the a-file. Theory calls this the Ware Opening.
• 1... b5 Challenges the pawn on a4 - it can push to a5 or take on b5.
• 2. axb5 Takes the pawn on b5 and opens the a-file for the rook.
• 2... Bb7 Fianchettoes the bishop onto the long diagonal, pressuring d5 and e4 from a distance. Theory calls this the Wing Gambit.
